Worship

Cambridge PC strives to create a worship experience that is welcoming to all. When you arrive, you will receive a bulletin that outlines the service and includes a number of announcements. Musical instrumentation is piano, mostly traditional hymns are sung. Dress would probably be described as “casual”, much like many work places today. Visitors are welcomed from the pulpit, but are not asked to identify themselves publicly. (No “raise your hand if you’re new!”) The first half of the service includes singing, prayers, and announcements; the second half includes the message and closing songs.

What does Cambridge PC believe “in a nutshell?” Cambridge PC stands in the faith tradition that might best be described as “Classical Christianity.” This tradition seeks to understand relationship with God from the perspective of the New Testament, centered on the ministry of Jesus.

We believe that Jesus provides the key to grasping who God is, who we are, and what it means to have a personal relationship with God. Like the first followers of Jesus, we believe that all of life can be transformed by a vital personal faith, and we seek to explore the specific ways this transformation might be expressed.

As a Presbyterian church, Cambridge PC is part of what's known as the Reformed branch of the Christian Church. Other "branches" would include other Protestant churches (Lutheran, for example), Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Pentecostalism.

Emerging from the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, Reformed theology seeks to ground itself on the revelation of God in and through Jesus Christ and the witness of the Apostles as recorded in the New Testament. Theologically, Cambridge PC is guided by the PCUSA's Book of Confessions. These creeds and confessions, spanning the entire history of the Church from the earliest days to present, describe the basic teachings of Reformed theology. Folks sometimes ask about a succinct summary of Cambridge PC's doctrine or theology. Though written centuries ago, The Apostles' Creed provides a classical summation of Christian teaching that expresses well our basic theological orientation.
